” Notes:the economic survey noted the european union’s carbon border adjustment mechanism (cbam) conflicts with the paris agreement’s spirit. cbam is an eu tariff on carbon-intensive products, ensuring imported goods pay for their carbon emissions, aligning their carbon price with domestic products. eu importers must buy carbon certificates based on embedded emissions. this encourages cleaner production globally by pricing carbon emissions fairly. cbam aims to prevent undermining the eu’s climate objectives.”

” Notes:the ministry of msme launched the “msme trade enablement and marketing initiative” (msme-team initiative) under the ramp scheme. it aims to assist five lakh msmes, including two and a half lakh women-owned mses, in onboarding the open network digital commerce (ondc) platform. the initiative offers financial assistance for catalogue preparation, logistics, and packaging. awareness workshops will target tier 2 and tier 3 cities. the sub-scheme runs until march 2027.”

” Notes:the national mission on cultural mapping (nmcm), overseen by the ministry of culture, aims to catalog the cultural heritage of 6.5 lakh villages across india. this initiative includes creating a comprehensive database of artists, art forms, and resources on an it-enabled platform. objectives include raising cultural heritage awareness, mapping villages’ cultural profiles, creating national artist registers, and developing a web portal and mobile app for cultural engagement.”

” Notes:the department of posts launched the beta version of digipin, a geo-coded addressing system developed with iit hyderabad. digipin aims to simplify addressing for public and private services by creating and sensing geo-locations of addresses. this system will enhance public service delivery, emergency response, and logistics efficiency. it will serve as a robust pillar of geospatial governance and can be used as a base layer for various ecosystems requiring accurate addressing.”

” Ivory coast (côte d’ivoire) become the 53rd party to the 1992 united nations (un) water convention which is also known as the convention on the protection and use of transboundary watercourses and international lakes. with this, ivory coast became the 10th african country to do so. this development came ahead of the 10th session of the meeting of the parties (mop) to the water convention which will held in ljubljana, slovenia from 23rd october, 2024 to 25th october, 2024. now, 4 largest economies of west africa such as: nigeria, ghana, senegal and ivory coast are parties of the water convention. the un water convention, was adopted in helsinki, finland on 17th march 1992 but it came into force on 9th october, 1996. chad, sengal (2018), ghana, guinea-bissau, togo (2021) and cameroon (2022) were the 1st african nations who joined the 1992 un water convention in 2016. ivory coast shares 8 transboundary river basins i.e. black volta, bia, tanoé, comoé, niger, sassandra, cavally et nuon with its 6 neighbouring countries which includes: ghana, burkina faso, mali, guinea, liberia and sierra leone.”

” The appointments committee of the cabinet (acc)has granted approval for the extension of the tenure of rajendra prasad goyal’s additional charge as the chairman and managing director (cmd) of the nhpc limited by another three months, with effect from june 1 2024. this decision permits goyal to serve as the interim cmd until a full-time cmd is appointed or further orders are issued, whichever occurs first. goyal has been holding the additional charge of cmd since march 1, 2024 following the retirement of the previous cmd, abhay kumar singh, on august 31, 2022″

” Azerbaijan, the host of COP29(Conference of the Parties) climate summit, launched the ‘Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF)’ to support green projects in developing countries and help to maintain the 1.5°C temperature target. Aim: To raise USD 1 billion from fossil fuel-producing countries and companies. The fund will be based in Baku, Azerbaijan with a secretariat and board including contributors and an independent audit committee. The COP29 will be held in Baku,Azerbaijan from November 11-22, 2024. CFAF is one initiative within a package of 14 announced as part of the COP29 action agenda to enhance ambition and enable action.”
