The President of India: Executive Head of State

The President is the Constitutional Head of the Union and the First Citizen of India. Articles 52 to 78 in Part V of the Constitution deal with the Union Executive.

Qualifications and Election Process

  • Qualifications (Article 58): Must be an Indian citizen, at least 35 years of age, qualified for election as a member of the Lok Sabha, and hold no office of profit.
  • Electoral College (Article 54): The President is elected by an electoral college consisting of:
  • Elected members of both Houses of Parliament.
  • Elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States and UTs (Delhi and Puducherry).

The Vice President of India
